How to write a press release for your book

The building blocks of a book announcement that gets to the point—and tells a great story.

STARTER RESOURCE · EDITORIAL PLACEHOLDER

Start with the news. Your book’s publication, a meaningful award, or a timely connection gives your announcement a reason to exist. A strong headline says what happened in clear language, without exaggerated claims.

Follow with a dateline and a first paragraph that answers who, what, where, when, and why. Include the book title, author, publication date, and what makes the story distinctive.

Add a little context, an authentic author quote, and practical purchase information. Finish with a short author biography and a media contact. Keep everything concise and check every date, link, and claim before sending.
